Maseru – Lesotho Meteorological Services is currently staging a Board Meeting for members of Meteorological Association of Southern Africa MASA in Maseru.
According to MASA Executive Director, Mr. Ts’eliso Sekoli, the meeting brought together board members from Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Lesotho, to analyse progress on the work done by the Association, its achievements and challenges as well as to map the way forward.
He said Lesotho was the first country which predicted and warned citizens about drought and its effects on water sources and agriculture in September last year, adding that some Basotho will undergo training in Pretoria, South Africa on issues pertaining to drought and water.
However, he said Lesotho, like other MASA member states faces the challenge of financial constraints due to the economic meltdown, saying Southern Africa is experiencing progressive drought, emphasising the need to address these challenges hence the meeting.
Representatives from the World Meteorological Organisation and the United Kingdom Meteorology are also present at the meeting.
