Mafeteng – The community of Ha Jobo in Mafeteng has called on the Ministry of Health to construct a health center in the area.
Ha Jobo area chief, Mr. Tlotlo Tlolo said lack of health facility in the area puts the community’s lives at risk particularly women, the elderly, the sick as well as pregnant women, saying they to travel long distance of about six to seven hours to Ribaneng Health Center which is not easy to reach due to lack of a proper road.
Mr. Tlolo said they currently rely on horses for transportation but some groups such as the elderly are unable to ride.
This was confirmed by Area Chieftainess ‘Mamothepu Nthoana who said the problem contributes to sexual harassment of women and girls who travel long distances along rivers and forests where their safety is compromised, and cited a recent case of two women who were sexually abused by an unknown man on their way from Ribaneng, saying one of them was also robbed 500 Maloti which she had just collected from Mafeteng Post Bank.
The Public Health Nurse, Mrs. ‘Mampho Mafereka said areas such as Ha Jobo need monthly health outreach campaigns but the problem is shortage of transport, saying however the Ministry is working hard to ensure the community has access to health services.
