Maseru – Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled LNFOD will mark the end of a three-year European Union EU Project called Empowering Rural Persons with Disabilities for Seeking their Entitlement at the event to be held in Maseru on November 24th.
This was revealed by LNFOD Executive Director, Advocate Nkhasi Sefuthi, saying the project, which commenced in 2013 was intended to strengthen grassroots advocacy in community councils.
He said the project was implemented at some community councils in four districts of the country namely Botha-Bothe, Berea, Mohale’s Hoek and Maseru.
According to Advocate Sefuthi the event will create an opportunity for the organisation to state achievements of the project and map the way forward, saying through the project, about 5000 people were sensitised about the rights of Persons with Disabilities, adding that about 900 of them were given an opportunity to partake in food for work projects.
He said People with Disabilities participated and stated their needs during formulation of the Decentralisation Bill by emphasising need to elect them as Councillors in Community Councils, and they were equipped with skills to establish agricultural income generating projects.
