UN Volunteers Day Celebration in Quthing

Quthing – The United Nations UN Volunteers will launch UN Volunteers Day National Celebration with cleaning of households of the aged at Lower Moyeni in Quthing from December second.

The Volunteer in Quthing District Council, Mrs. Ntheosi Makara said the day will be celebrated to sensitise the community about the importance of voluntarism in community development, and it will continue with a retreat where volunteers will identify and address their common challenges, and also share ideas and experiences in promotion of voluntarism in the country.

She said the day also stimulates people to offer services voluntarily from village to national level using their skills, adding that activities of the UN Volunteers Day are also intended to help the impact of voluntarism in implementation of Sustainable Development Goals intended to overcome among others, global common challenges that include poverty, hunger, gender inequality, climate change, quality education and unemployment.

UN Volunteers Day is an annual event held on December fifth to sensitise the nations about the importance of voluntarism in social development and last year the celebration was held in Maseru.
