Maseru – A door-to-door campaign to identify families of ex-miners will be conducted soon after a work plan for implementation of the Tuberculosis TB in the Mining Sector project has been submitted.
Ex-miners Association of Lesotho Executive Director, Mr. Rants’o Mantsi said the work plan is expected to be submitted to the Wits Health Consortium Coordinator in Maseru this week, saying the plan is to look for the current and ex-miners as well as their families to find out if any suffered from TB so they can get the necessary assistance through the project.
According to Mr. Mantsi the campaign will be piloted in Maseru and Mohale’s Hoek before it can be extended to the other districts of the country, saying they want to identify the targeted families so they can be compensated.
He said Lesotho is among the 10 countries within the Southern African Development Community SADC region that a project on TB in the mining sector will be implemented.
The project was also aimed to assist with social security benefits since some of them did not even know that they were contributing to the funds that are now holding their monies.
