Mokhotlong – Athletics Mokhotlong Association AMA has officially announced Mangoajane Khama as their only athlete to battle for championship of 87.7 km Comrades Marathon scheduled for Sunday at Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa.
This year’s marathon is planned to kick start from Durban up route to Pietermaritzburg. According to AMA Spokesperson, Mr. Realeboha Lenanya, Comrades Marathon is one of the world challenging ultra-marathons with many steep hills which require a strong passionate athlete who can withstand running under such pressure.
Lenanya who specialises in 42.2 km full marathons, said they are aware that Khama is one of the hard workers within AMA, adding that although the athlete completed the previous marathon in eight hours, this year will be his second experience to challenge Comrades Marathon and as a result they are hopeful of a promising outcome.
Khama has promised good results for the nation after many training programmes since January, saying last year the marathon ran downward from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, this year they are faced with a challenge of running against steep hills.
The Comrades Marathon was initiated by Victor Clapham to pay tribute to comrades fallen during the Great War.
