Maseru – Lesotho’s senior soccer squad, Likuena has returned home from Tanzania with their heads held high after holding their opponents Taifa Stars to a 1-1 draw in front of a capacity crowd played in Dar-es-Salaam.
Likuena and Taifa Stars met in an opening Total African Cup of Nations AFCON qualifier whose finals will be played in Cameroon in 2019.
Head Coach Mr. Moses Maliehe said overall, they played well even though he was not entirely pleased with the midfield, but commended his defence for being outstanding even though they conceded one goal from a set piece.
Mr. Maliehe singled out Ts’oanelo Koetle and Tumelo Khutlang for having been shoulders high above the rest as well as.
He said despite the hot and humid weather conditions, the fact that the players arrived only a day before the game helped them not to be affected by the conditions, and their training at Lehakoe Recreation Club also boosted the players conditioning.
He said the United States based Napo Matsoso is also gelling well with the rest of the players, describing him as tactically superb even though he said the player will be given a full run at the regional COSAFA Cup tournament.
At the AFCON qualifiers, Likuena is in group L in second position that is led by Uganda after narrowly edging out Cape Verde 1- 0 that sit at the bottom of the group while Tanzania is on third.
