Maseru – Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association will send 16 year old Mojela Koneshe to the International Association of Athletics Federation IAAF World Youth Under-18 Championships to be staged in Nairobi, Kenya from July 12th to 16th this year.
The Association’s Treasurer Mr. Makhaola Serake said after failing to meet the required qualifying standards, the Association has been given a quota to send one athlete to participate at this biggest athletics event, and Koneshe has been selected based on his best time made during the National Athletics Championships held in Mafeteng earlier this year.
Mr. Serake said Koneshe will be running in the 100 metres race and will have to return home on July 13th as he is also one of the two local athletes who will be part of Team Lesotho for the Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games, together with Limakatso Mohale.
He added that Koneshe will be accompanied by an official due to the fact that he is under age and also needs to have both his parents’ affidavits as per the human trafficking rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, the Association is also scheduled to send an Athletics Team to the London World Senior Championships in August.
