Maseru – Lesotho’s senior soccer squad Likuena’s early exit in the African Nations Championship CHAN against Comoros on 2-1 aggregate score has come to haunt then in the current Federation of International Football Association FIFA rankings.
Likuena has dropped five places down from 138 to now 143 in the world and sit on position 44 in Africa.
Likuena Head Coach Mr. Moses Maliehe said the drop is not a good sign and he blamed it on an early exit at CHAN qualifiers, saying he had warned the players to take every match seriously because the outcome will eventually come to haunt them as is currently the case.
He said some promising players around the world have failed to secure lucrative contracts in Europe despite being talented as they have not played a certain number of matches for their senior national soccer squad and this could also be the same for local players.
Likuena shares 143rd position with Comoros, while Swaziland that also dropped seven places is occupying position 139th and Botswana sits in 140 places dropped two places in the FIFA rankings.
Likuena’s next official game is in March next year against Cape Verde in the African Cup of Nations AFCON qualifiers.
