Maseru – Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union AU Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat has condemned the killing of Army Commander, Lieutenant General Khoantle Motsomotso.
In his press release Mr. Mahamat expressed concern over the potentially destabilizing consequences of the act on the peace that Lesotho enjoys, following successful conduct of democratic elections.
He also expressed concern at the fact that this gruesome incident takes place hardly two years after the assassination of Lieutenant General Maaparankoe Mahao in June 2015, calling on the parties in Lesotho to resolve political differences through peaceful means.
He also called for calm and restraint, and urged government to institute an investigation into this matter, and the Southern African Development Community SADC to engage government to explore means to resolving all outstanding issues, including, but not limited to the implementation of the recommendations of the SADC Commission of Inquiry.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Commander’s family, the government and the people of Lesotho.
Meanwhile, the SADC Fact Finding Mission has left Lesotho after consultations with stakeholders to get to the root of what transpired on the fateful day when Lieutenant General Motsomotso was allegedly killed by his subordinates after allegedly accusing him of betraying and selling them to the police.
