Maseru – In an effort to promote Basotho businesses and assist in the fight against unemployment and poverty, Basotho Enterprise Development Cooperation BEDCO has launched four enterprise development programs.
Speaking during the launch, BEDCO Chief Executive Officer Dr. ‘Makatleho Matabooe said the first program is entrepreneurial capacity building, indicating that entrepreneurs should be aware of opportunities available through the use of Information and Communication Technologies which have taken centre stage as catalysts of business.
She said the second program is unlocking of local and international markets for Basotho entrepreneurs, saying if their businesses are known by the market that will contribute to job creation, which will increase the economy.
Dr. Matabooe added that the other program is mentorship which is going to help inject and cultivate an entrepreneurial culture into Basotho, while the fourth program intends to promote the creative arts and crafts of Basotho in business, saying BEDCO is going to commence a six month acceleration of job creation project that will create two hundred new jobs for Basotho.
Speaking at the same launch, BEDCO Executive Head Enterprise Development, Mr. Pesha Shale said there are a lot of unemployed people in the country, and hopes the programs will help fight hunger and poverty.
He appealed to Basotho graduates not to be job seekers, but job creators and take part in job creation and poverty eradication.
Meanwhile, in a bid to promote local and international market for Basotho entrepreneurs, BEDCO will hold the Global Entrepreneurial Week in Maseru from November 13th to 19th.
