Maseru – Six athletes who brought silverware from the African Union Region Five U-20 Youth Games 2016 in Luanda, Angola will be given awards at a ceremony to be held at Bambatha Ts’ita Sports Arena in Maseru on Monday.
The awards will be presented by the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation Honourable Kabelo Mafura on behalf of the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission.
The Commission’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Refiloe Maphallela said the athlete who won gold will receive 5000 Maloti, while three silver medalists will each be given 3000 Maloti and the four bronze medalists will each get 1500 Maloti for their efforts at the Games.
The Team notched up a total of 13 medals from Athletics, Boxing, Tennis and Netball as well as Athletics of Visually Impaired Persons, during the Games which were held on December ninth to 19th, 2016.
Mr. Maphallela said during the same occasion, the Commission will officially launch its second edition of the Lesotho Annual Sports Awards 2018, the Commission’s motto and a website that will be used to disseminate information on sports.
