Maseru – The Minister of Water Affairs Honourable Samonyane Ntsekele has officially launched Ha Foso Drought Relief Water Supply Project at an event held at Ha Foso in Maseru.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said the current drought has brought about different challenges which the government has to address saying urbanisation which resulted in the increase of population has contributed to shortage of water.
He called for cooperation among the Marabeng and Ha-Foso communities and encouraged them to ensure safety of the project property, and discouraged vandalism and illegal connections in those areas.
The Member of Parliament for Berea Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo said Ha Foso qualifies as an urban area and has been his priority due to lack of water, which has affected the community for many years.
On behalf of the Principal Chief of Berea, Chief Moeketsi Majara appealed to the community to use the available water sparingly, support one another and share the water with those who cannot afford to have it connected to their homes.
The Chief Executive for Water and Sewage Company WASCO Mr. Lehlohonolo Manamolela called for cooperation and communication from the community in order to ensure quality service delivery, and hopes Ha Foso will be the first area in which pre-paid system is implemented.
The Commissioner of Water Affairs Mr. Mokake Mojakisane said there will be public water taps to provide water temporarily, and through the Greater Maseru Project, WASCO will ensure water supply at Ha Foso and Marabeng.
