Maseru – The Minister of Water Affairs Honourable Samonyane Ntsekele officially launched the Marabeng Drought Relief Water Supply Project at an event held at Marabeng, in Berea.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Ntsekele said every Mosotho is affected by water shortage which has also been a challenge for the Marabeng community for a long time, saying while this is a short-term project, there is a long-term one called ‘Greater Maseru’ which is in the pipeline that will ensure that every community member has access to water.
The Member of Parliament for Berea Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo thanked government for responding to the needs of Marabeng community through the Project, and appealed to the community to use water sparingly and take care of the project.
On behalf of the Water and Sewage Company Mrs. ‘Mamathe Makhaola said there is a sanitation master-plan for Maseru in which Marabeng is included which is intended to ensure good sanitation, while Chief Moeketsi Majara on behalf of the Principal Chief of Berea, urged the Marabeng community to save water and use it effectively.
A resident of Marabeng, Mrs. ‘Malesia Makobane called for the needy members of the community to be assisted with toilets at their homes, in order to ensure good sanitation in the area.
Twelve Million Maloti was set aside for the Marabeng Drought Relief Water Supply Project which started in October 2016, with water sourced from the Thuathe Plateau.
