Maseru – The Minister of Small Businesses Development, Cooperatives and Marketing Honourable Chalane Phori has encouraged factory workers to form cooperatives.
Speaking during a visit to the factory workers at Ha Thetsane in Maseru, Honourable Phori said cooperatives can help factory workers to start businesses and create employment, and encouraged them to work together to ensure business sustainability.
He pointed out that government has the responsibility to equip Basotho with skills and assured the factory workers that those who want to start businesses will receive training, and emphasised that every Mosotho has potential to engage in business and contribute to poverty eradication and the country’s development.
The Director of Small Businesses Mr. Setlaba Monaheng said there is life in business and people who start small in business have the opportunity to grow, encouraging the factory workers through their different societies to form cooperatives.
The Minister is expected to also visit other factories in the country to promote cooperatives and encourage factory workers to start businesses.
The Ministry of Small Business Development was established to help to bridge the gap between the upcoming business community and already established businesses in the country.
It is mandate to ensure business growth and access to finances for Basotho who are in business.
