Maseru – Government introduces institutions of Botho University’s calibre in order to give Basotho an opportunity to access world-class higher education.
Officially launching Botho University in Maseru, the Minister of Education and Training Dr. Mahali Phamotse said at the centre of the Ministry’s broad vision are young people contemplating the future in a world where they must depend on their wits and drive to survive.
She added that Botho University’s profile brings together career traits, personalities and social interactional qualities most of which cannot be promoted in a classroom, saying government aims to drive forward social mobility by accelerating progress in widening participation so Basotho with ability and interest can benefit from higher education.
Dr. Phamotse said the country welcomes institutions such as Botho University to ensure that students have real value that reflects their diverse needs, saying as the country celebrates the University’s arrival and encourages their participation in strengthening higher education.
The University Vice Chancellor Mrs. Sheela Raja Ram said they intend to provide the best to students in order to allow them to become the best, and called up the students to work hard as today’s employers need graduates that are smart and ready to deal with changes.
Mrs. Ram added that they will invest in quality education with support from government and Basotho.
The event was graced by the presence of among others the Ministers of Development Planning, Water Affairs and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, and the University’s Lesotho Campus started operating last year and currently has 2004 students.
