Maseru – The Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sport and Recreation is reviewing the Youth and Sport Policies.
Briefing the Press in Maseru the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sport and Recreation Honourable Mathibeli Mokhothu said two consultants have been tasked with conducting researches which will indicate areas that need more attention in order to strengthen them.
He said the review of the Youth Policy developed in 2003 will allow the Ministry to address challenges that face the youth which include unemployment, teenage pregnancy, HIV infection as well as drug abuse.
The Minister said the research on Youth Policy will assist them to respond to the needs of youth thus empower them and develop their lives, saying the Ministry has established a task team to ensure that the consultants do their job within the eight months allocated for them.
Honourable Mokhothu said the Sport Policy will be used to develop the talent of youth and make sports professional and entertaining, as this will allow the youth to contribute to the development of the economy through sports.
He added that the intention is to create employment by exporting professionally trained players and coaches.
