Beijing – The Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Honourable Khotso Letsatsi signed a Memorandum of Understanding MOU with Star Times through Vice President of Star Times Group Ms. Gou Zipi.
The signing ceremony took place at the Third Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation held in Beijing, China.
The Minister said the MOU is signed for licensing of channels where the Ministry of Communications will lend channels to Star Times in order to diversify coverage, and will also be an opportunity to set up a platform for the future when everyone in Africa switches on to digital broadcasting.
However, Honourable Letsatsi said lending of channels is a pilot exercise, and he still needs to propose a Joint Venture between Lesotho and China, saying when the government has approved of the joint venture all broadcasting will improve.
The Minister of China’s State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film and Television, Honourable Cai Fuchao said China and Africa’s determination to achieve win-win cooperation and common development remains the same.
Honourable Fuchao said during Johannesburg’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, they made a comprehensive plan for development of China-Africa, and they also promised to comply and deliver accordingly on issues discussed at the summit.
He said China-Africa relations will also focus on facilitation of cooperation in the field of media and international communications in an effort to influence in the arena of international public opinion.
