Civilians and Forces Receive Awards

Maseru – His Majesty King Letsie III has presented awards and medals to 422 Members of Lesotho Defence Force LDF, Lesotho Mounted Police Services LMPS, Lesotho Correctional Services LCS and civilians.

The first to be awarded were the LDF officers for Military Medal for Meritorious service, where 13 were awarded, 89 others were awarded for meritorious service while 11 LDF Senior officers for having served the military for 30 years and 14 junior officers were also awarded for long service of 30 years.

At the same event, seven LMPS Senior Officers were also awarded for long and loyal service of 30 years and 29 junior officers, while Police Medal for meritorious Services were awarded to eight and 44 junior officers were also awarded.

LMPS medals for outstanding services were given to four officers, while 69 other junior officers were also awarded with medals for long service. Medal for gallantry were awarded to six LCS officers, while Correctional Medals for Meritorious Service were given to three Superintendents, and other ranks.

Civilian awards of the Officer of the Most Loyal Order of Ramats’eatsana were given to Mr. David Keith Jandrell, for the outstanding role he played in business mainly in the retail sector, and Sister Juliana Manele for being a champion of home-based care in response to escalating HIV and assisting vulnerable children.

The awards were also given to Mr. Mothibeli Makhetha for being a lead farmer on wool and mohair growers association, Mrs. ‘Mampoi Mateetee, was awarded for her astute champion of cultural practices in South Africa and Lesotho and to an actress Ms. Lillian Dube for her leading role in Sesotho cultural activities.

The award giving ceremony pre-empts the national celebration of the King’s 53rd birthday to be held in Qacha’s Nek on Saturday, and it was graced by Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Bereng Seeiso, Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers.
