Maseru – Preparations are underway for construction of a Tier three standard Data Centre in Mohale’s Hoek as part of implementing Lesotho e-government Infrastructure Project.
According to the Project Coordinator Mr. Khiba Masiu one data centre is housed at Ministry of Finance and the other one at Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, which will be relocated to Mohale’s Hoek with the idea of upgrading its quality and standard.
Mr. Masiu said renovation of a Video Conference Centre and Call Centre are other activities that will be implemented under the Project, adding that other developments taking place include renovation of Computer Laboratories at Lerotholi Polytechnic from July, which is expected to end in September.
He said the laboratories will be provided with computers and used to train different groups while the Video centre will be used by senior government officials, saying people who need clarification on infrastructure can call the centre to get assistance regarding different issues they may want to know once online services are up and running.
The Lesotho e-government Infrastructure Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology through its Information, Communication and Technology ICT Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance.
The Project is co-funded by government and the African Development Bank with over 12 million Maloti, and has four main components, namely strengthening of core government network infrastructure, strengthening of data centres, improvement of the government E-portal and skills development.
The Project which became effective in October last year ends in 2018.
